Thank you to Rabbi Dovid Gottlieb for an inspiring and meaningful Shabbat at Anshe Chesed. Rabbi Gottlieb joined us as part of the Gertrude Weil Institute for Torah Learning. Over Shabbat, teens joined Rabbi and Rebbetzin Katz for a special Friday night meal, spending meaningful time connecting with Rabbi Gottleib. This was followed by a Oneg for all, where Rabbi Gottlieb shared powerful insights and discussed the complex halachic questions he has faced as a rabbi leading an organization that supports thousands of soldiers with both their religious and mental-health needs.

His words highlighted not only the extraordinary sacrifices of our chayalim, but also how deeply precious Shabbat is to them—and the great lengths they are willing to go, even on the battlefield, to preserve its sanctity. Rabbi Gottlieb’s drasha on Yaakov’s legacy and the future of the Jewish people resonated deeply with the community, and Shabbat concluded with a Shiur about what it truly means to live a religious life.
