Congregation Anshe Chesed’s annual dinner will be held on Sunday, May 15, at 6:30 p.m. The dinner promises to be an exciting evening, celebrating Anshe Chesed’s 108th anniversary and honoring four incredible people who exemplify commitment to the shul. Each honoree has made a huge impact on the community in multiple ways. The dinner serves as an opportunity to honor them and thank them for their service.

Linden’s 9th Ward Councilmember Armando Medina will receive our inaugural Community Service Award. As the shul has grown over the past few years, Medina has been a reliable and compassionate source of assistance and advice for our community. For example, he is influential in keeping our playgrounds safe for children and comfortable for adults. Medina is always willing to help out shul members, and we commend him for his involvement in our shul and the broader community.

Hadassah (Das) Zell will receive the Outstanding Service Award. Zell commits so much of her time in service to our shul. In addition to spearheading many shul events throughout the years, she coordinates the shul’s kiddushim. Each Shabbat, she goes out of her way to make sure everything is perfect. Zell demonstrates an “all in” attitude towards everything she takes on and she does so graciously.

Evan and Janet Leibowitz will receive the Young Leadership Award. Since they moved to the community, Evan and Janet have always supported Anshe Chesed and sacrificed their time and energy to ensure that the shul continues to flourish. Evan is instrumental in adopting and executing our shul’s security policies, and Janet has served in a variety of different shul committees. Janet and Evan are known in the community for their warmth and hospitality. Together they exemplify the qualities of leadership that our shul thrives on.
